Jim Peterson

Peterson is entering his ninth season as the program's head coach. 

The Saints have earned a spot in the GNAC playoffs for the past five seasons and have qualified for the NCAA Softball Playoffs the past two seasons. Three times in the past five years, SMU softball players have been selected as the GNAC Freshman of the Year.
Saint’s first baseman, Heather Ebner, was selected as the GNAC Co-Player of the year in 2025.
 
Peterson has coached numerous first-team and second-team All-GNAC players during his tenure at Saint Martin's. In addition to All League Honors, multiple Saint’s players have been selected to the All-West Region Teams and several players have set GNAC and SMU single season softball records.

Before his time at Saint Martin's, Peterson was an assistant coach for Central Washington University for one season. Peterson will also draw on his experience with the Canadian Women's Olympic Softball team. During his tenure, the Canadians played in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and earned Silver medals in the 2006 and 2009 Canada Cups. They also notched three bronze finishes from 2006 to 2009 in the World Cup of Softball. He also coached on the Canadian Team at the World University Games in Thailand where the team won a gold medal.

Peterson played men's fastpitch in the Seattle area for 15 years and grew up in Des Moines, WA . He graduated from Central Washington University in 1984 with a Business Degree in Marketing.
