Bellingham, WA – Western Washington scored one goal in each half on their way to a 2-0 win over Saint Martin's in Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at Orca Field on the Whatcom Community College Campus.
Western opened the scoring in the 14th minute. A Saint Martin's clearance of a free kick by the Vikings came back to Thomas Kauffman and he sent in a shot from 25 yards out that deflected off a Saints defender and into the net.
In the 48th minute WWU's Kellen Brown sent a cross to Darragh Simm eight yards out. Simms' volley bounced off the turf and into the top of the net for an insurance goal.
The shots were fairly even with Western getting off 13 to Saint Martin's 11. Zac Lubin had two saves for the Saints in his 81 minutes in goal and TJ Young made one save in the final nine minutes. Cameron Copps-Tilley had two saves for the Vikings.
Saint Martin's, who clinched the school's first GNAC title last week, finish 11-7-0 overall and 6-2-0 in conference play.
