"I'm very proud of the effort our guys showed tonight," said head coach
Alex Pribble. "Washington is a talented, well coached team, so we knew it was going to be a battle. We came in here and played them tough for 40 minutes. We were well prepared and forced them out of their 2-3 zone early in the game, which is hard to do. Our guys shared the ball very well; they were very unselfish. This game showed our potential. We got great contributions from Luke (Chavez) and EJ (Boyce) in terms of scoring, but Tavian Henderson and BJ Standley contributed huge minutes for us tonight. Our bigs got in some foul trouble early, so other players stepped up and played hard."
Leading the way was Luke Chavez, who led the entire game with 32 points, along with five assists. EJ Boyce added 22 points on 7-for-12 shooting from deep. Standley provided 11 points off the bench while Baerlocher and Henderson combined for 15 points.
The Saints shot 28-for-61 (45.9 percent) from the floor and an impressive 18-for-34 (52.9 percent) from beyond the arc. The Saints struggled at the line, going 13-for-2 (61.9 percent). SMU scored 12 points in the paint and converted 13 points off of 10 Huskies' turnovers.
