Saints Hit Century Mark In 100-49 Victory Over Quest

LACEY, Wash. – All 14 Saints scored as the Saints went 17-for-30 beyond the arc to cruise past Quest University, 100-49, inside Marcus Pavilion on Saturday.
 
76 of the Saints' (7-2) 100 points came from the bench as all 14 Saints who played scored at least one bucket as SMU quickly pulled away from Quest (2-5) with a 19-0 run to start the game.
 
The Saints did not wait long to pull away from the Kermodes, scoring the first 19 points of the game, 12 of which came from the deep ball. After the first bucket by Quest at the 13:32 mark, the Saints completed the early 26-2 run with a 3-pointer by Cameron Chatwin and four points by Tavian Henderson.
 
Jared Mathews put together a complete half, scoring on all five shot attempts for 11 points, while recording two assists and two steals. Mathews' first bucket came with 8:58 left in the half, after intercepting a pass and scoring on a fast break. Mathews proceeded to score 11 of the Saints next 15 points to push SMU in front 47-10 with 6:30 remaining in the half. Mikko Balmes and Robert Little connected on 3-pointers to close out the half with Saint Martin's leading 59-21.
 
SMU's first basket in second half didn't come until the 16:17 mark when Kitchen was found for a breakaway dunk after a Luke Chavez steal. The Saints continued to attack inside the paint, recording 34 points in the paint, and capitalizing on turnovers, with 36 points coming off turnovers.
 
The Saints' lead grew out to 59 with 2:53 left in the ballgame before closing out the 100-49 victory. The Saints hit the century mark for the first time since last season when the Saints hung 120 on Northwest Indian College.
 
Leading the way for SMU was Mathews with 15 points and five steals while Caden Smith added 12 points and four assists. Henderson and Kazuma Lane each added 10 points and combined for six rebounds. Luke Chavez contributed five steals and four assists in only 10 minutes of action. Michael Painter and Cameron Chatwin each finished with eight points and Little recorded six points and four boards.
 
As a team, Saint Martin's shot 35-for-63 (55.6 percent) from the field, 17-for-30 (56.7 percent) beyond the arc, and 13-for-17 (76.5 percent) at the free throw line. The Saints recorded 36 rebounds, 28 assists on 15 turnovers, with 19 steals and two blocks.
