BILLINGS, Mont. - Despite home runs from
Trevor Young,
Adam Eskil and
Austin Feist, Saint Martin's Baseball dropped the final two games of a four-game series against GNAC opponent Montana State University Billings.
Game One
Young got the Saints (13-23, 10-18 GNAC) on the board first with a solo home run to right field, his third of the season.
MSUB (17-25, 15-17) responded with three runs in the bottom of the second before Eskil decided to tie the game in the third with a two-run home run, his team-leading seventh of the year.
Billings extended their lead to 5-3 before the top of the fifth where Young's double down the left field line scored
Steven Sordahl cut the lead to 5-4.
The Saints final run of the game came in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from Sordahl brought home catcher
Zach Raczok. MSUB scored the final seven runs of the game, winning 18-5.
SMU used five pitchers throughout the contest, starting with
Benjamin Wadowski, before
Zach Stevenson (0-2),
Patrick Hoeper,
Jacob Phipps and Young rounded out the action from the bullpen.
Game Two
The Saints once again jumped out to an early lead, with a two-run home run
Austin Feist, who followed by Eskil's solo shot to left center. The first time the Saints have gone back-to-back this season.
Montana State Billings relied on the power of their bats to overcome the Saints, highlighted by two two-run home runs and RBI doubles and a triple to rattle off seven unanswered runs.
Mickey Walker (2-7) got the start on the mound for SMU, going three innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.
Luke Hare was called in from the pen, throwing 2.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits with two strike outs. Eskil finished the final two outs, allowing one run with one strike out.
