ELLENSBURG, Wash. - An extra inning walk-off grand slam for
Alyssa French was followed by a one-run complete game gem from
Kim Nelson to clinch the four-games series for Saint Martin's over Central Washington on Monday.
Game One
Central Washington (32-10, 19-5 GNAC) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after two innings before the Saints (22-14, 14-8) got on the board with singles from
Paige Miller and
Alyssa Slate, scoring two runs.Â
Saint Martin's took their first lead of the game in the third inning after

Central took their first extra innings lead with a RBI single up the middle. The Saints, down to their final out and runners on second and third, capitalized on an intentional walk ball that skipped away, allowing an aggressive running
Nicki DeHan to score and tie the game up.Â
CWU again took an extra inning lead in the 10th after third baseman Egbert doubled to center field, scoring one. Down to their final three outs, the Saints began in the inning with a double to left center from
Sabrina Hicks.
Mary Dettling came through with the game-tying RBI single up the middle, scoring Hicks. After an intentional walk to

Game Two
Kim Nelson received all the run support she needed in the first inning of the game after RBI doubles from Dettling and herself while a RBI single from Schmaeling gave the Saints a 3-0 lead.
Central Washington crossed the plate once all game, with that time coming in the third on a single to left field and a fielding error allowed the run to score.
SMU responded quickly and swiftly with another three run inning in the third, highlighted by RBI doubles from French and Slate to go along with a RBI single from DeHan to extend the lead to 6-1.
The final run to cap-off the impressive series win over Central Washington came in the sixth in the form of a RBI single from Schmaeling, scored L. Miller.
Nelson (11-6) pitched one of her most impressive performances, going all seven innings, allowing one run, unearned, on six hits. Nelson pitched to contact, forcing eight fly-outs and 11 ground-outs, while striking out none but also walking no batters.
"What a spectacular series of games," said head coach
Rick Noren. "The first one today was as mentally draining and as hard fought game that you will see. Our seniors did a great job and we had some clutch hits from young players. The great at-bat from
Alyssa French was obviously a huge game winner that every player dreams of. Both Lindsay (Miller) and Kim (Nelson) threw great games and we had some defensive plays."
