Corrie Wilson's Walk-Off Hit Secures Doubleheader Split With Simon Fraser

LACEY, Wash. – Down to the final out, Corrie Wilson came through in the clutch with a walk-off single to secure the back end of a doubleheader split for the Saints against Simon Fraser on Sunday.

Game One

Simon Fraser (8-22, 4-10 GNAC) recorded the first run of the game in the third inning after a RBI single found grass in right field.

The Saints (16-12, 8-6) did not collect their first hit until the fourth inning and got on the board in the fifth inning. Alyssa Slate's single to center field drove in both Emily Baca and Wilson and gave the Saints a 2-1 lead after five innings.

Kim Nelson pitched the first five innings before falling into a jam with two runners on and two outs in the sixth inning. Lindsay Miller was called on in relief and after surrendering a single to load the bases, she shut the door on the Clan's rally with a groundout to first.

However, Simon Fraser capitalized on a couple fielding errors by the Saints in the top of the seventh, en route to a seven run comeback rally and an 8-2 victory.

Nelson got the start, going 5.2 innings, allowing one run on 11 hits with one walk and one punch out. L. Miller (2-3) picked up the loss after throwing two-thirds of an inning, giving up seven runs, four earned on six hits before Lauren Maley closed out the final two outs.

Game Two

Simon Fraser once again took advantage of Saints errors and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning on two singles to center field.

Saint Martin's quickly responded with a run in the bottom half of the second after aggressive base running from Wilson resulted in a run on a wild pitch.

Simon Fraser added on to their lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning a double down the right field line and a single to center scored one run each.

Taylor Wolf and Mary Dettling kicked off the fifth with singles before Sabrina Hicks capped-off her monstrous nine RBI weekend with a three-run home run to left field and cut the lead to 5-4.

The Saints quieted the Clan's bats over the next two innings and set the stage for a seventh inning rally. Dettling led-off the inning with a single to center before being lifted for a pinch-runner in Baca. Baca advanced to second on Hicks' three hit of the ball game. After a groundout, Jackie Schmaeling flew out to right field and Baca tagged-up to move up to third, resulting in a throw from the outfield and Hicks' aggressive base running moved her into scoring position. The game-tying and winning run were in scoring position for Wilson who was 2-for-3 on the day. On the first pitch, Wilson lofted a ball over the infield that landed just fair down the right field line, driving in both Baca and Hicks and winning the game for the Saints 6-5.

Lauren Maley (4-2) earned her fourth victory of the season after a complete game, eight hit, five run, two earned performance. She faced 29 batters, forcing seven fly-outs, 13 ground outs and only threw 79 pitches.

"The first game was disappointing in all facets; however, it was great to see the team come back and fight in the second game" said head coach Rick Noren. "Sabrina Hicks had a great day both at the plate and defensively. Mary Dettling also had a great offensive performance in the second game. Corrie Wilson had a great at-bat to drive in the winning two runs with two outs in the second game as well."

Up Next: The Saints hit the road for a four-game series with Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho on April 14-15. Friday's games start at 1 p.m. and finish with a 11 a.m. start on Saturday.
