LACEY, Wash. - Behind a bases-clearing triple by
Austin Feist and eight overpowering innings from
Aaron Shoup, Saint Martin's baseball split a home doubleheader against Concordia University on Senior day.
Game One
The Saints (17-28, 14-24 GNAC) jumped out to an early lead in the third inning on a pair of RBI singles from
Alec Hagerman and Feist gave the Saints a 2-0 lead.
After trading a pair of runs in the fifth inning,
Austin Feist delivered the clutch base hit with the bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning, and later scored on a
Adam Eskil sacrifice fly to extend the Saints' lead to 7-1.
Concordia (13-35, 12-27) mounted a ninth inning rally on a two RBI double by Bevacqua, who scored on the same play by a throwing error, cut the score to 7-4.
Mickey Walker was called in from the bullpen to close out the game, and he earned his third save of the year in the process.
Aaron Shoup (5-3) pitched an impressive eight innings, only allowing four runs, two earned on five hits while striking out four Cavaliers to earn the victory. Shoup dropped his ERA to 4.72 on the season.
Game Two
The Cavaliers answered the call first, scoring a run in the top of the first, before the Saints responded with a run in the bottom of the inning and later took the lead in the second on RBI singles Hagerman and
Steven Sordahl.
Concordia plated a runner in the third before the Saints extended their lead to 5-3 in the fifth inning on a fielding error by the Cavaliers, scoring Feist.
The Cavaliers used a four run, sixth inning to capture their first lead of the day, highlighted by two RBI singles. The Saints tied the game in the seventh inning on a Feist fielder's choice and RBI single from Eskil to send the game into extra innings.
The score remained 7-7 until the 10th inning when a double down the right field line, scored two runs and proved to be the difference as Concordia held on to win 9-7.
The Saints dipped deep into their pitching staff, throwing five pitchers with
Benjamin Wadowski getting the start and going 2.2 innings.
Tanner Inouye pitched the next 2.1 innings before
Luke Hare threw 3.0 innings.
Mickey Walker (2-8) earned the loss after going 1.2 innings before
Zach Stevenson recorded the final out.
