Last Minute Goal Lifts Saints Over Lutes 3-2

LACEY, Wash. - After conceding a game-tying goal in the 79th minute, the Saints rallied behind Will Eldred's game-winning goal in the 88th minute to claim the 3-2 exhibition victory over Pacific Lutheran.

Coming off a throw from McKray John, Joey Mack found Eldred unmarked in the middle of box. Eldred drove the ball past a diving keeper to clinch the 3-2 victory.

Pacific Lutheran struck first in the sixth minute with a goal before the Saints got on the board in the 34th minute when Edgar Iniguez connected from roughly five yards out for his second goal in the preseason. Iniguez was assisted by Brandon Madsen and Kohn.

Madsen got the scoring started in the second half with a goal in the 61st minute after an Iniguez shot bounced away from the keeper and Madsen scored on the second chance opportunity.

The Lutes tied the game in the 79th minute on a goal from 10 yards out. The Saints just missed a game-winning opportunity in the 83rd minute after Kohn's shot was barely saved by the PLU keeper, before Eldred made the finishing touch in the 88th minute.

The Saints outshot the Lutes 17-to-6 including 12-to-2 in the second half. The Saints also led in the shots on goal statistic with 11-to-5, and corner kicks (8-5), with the Lutes recording eight saves to the Saints' three.

The Saints begin the regular season with two matches in Portland, Oregon next week, the first coming against San Francisco State University on August 31 at 2:00 p.m.
