LACEY, Wash. - Down to the final their chance,
Kiersten Madsen connected on a shot from the middle of the box off a corner kick to clinch the 2-1 victory in the final 22 seconds of their exhibition match with Thompson Rivers.
Thompson Rivers struck first with a goal in the 16th minute after a corner kick found an unmarked player in the middle of the box to give the Wolf Pack a 1-0 lead.
The Saints were held in check throughout the first half until the 52nd minute when
Gloria Petri beat multiple defenders down the line and crossed the ball to
Shea McKnight who netted the equalizer.
Neither team was able to end the game in regular time, forcing the game into overtime. The Saints fought off the Wolf Pack's attack in the first overtime before going on the offensive in the final five minute period. With the time dwindling down,
Rose Robbins took the final corner, and found Madsen for the game-winning golden goal.
The Saints outshot the Wolf Pack 12-11 and shots on goal 10-4. Thompson Rivers led the saves (8-3) and corner kick (7-3) stat columns.
Saint Martin's begins its' regular season with a road trip to California to face California State Monterey Bay on August 31. Kick-off is set to begin in 2:00 p.m.
