Three Second Half Goals Lifts Hawaii Pacific Over Saints

LACEY, Wash. – After taking a 2-0 lead on goals from Mamadou Leigh and Brandon Madsen, Hawaii Pacific stormed back with three second half to win 3-2 over the Saints.

In the 22nd minute, the Saints (0-5) struck first when Sebastian Navarro's pass off a free kick found Mamadou Leigh on the left side of the box, who headed in his first goal of the season.

To begin the second half, the Saints extended their lead to 2-0 after Navarro once again found an open Saint, this time Brandon Madsen, who connected on a left to right shot for his team-leading third goal of the season.

Hawaii Pacific (2-1-1) picked up their first goal of the match just two minutes after the Saints' second goal, when Gerrit Arzberger found his way into the middle of the box.

The Sharks equalized the match in the 69th minute when Josch Cuerten dribbled through multiple defenders. The final blow came with just 1:15 minutes left in the match on a goal that just went above the outstretched hands of Griffin Small.

"First and foremost, I have to commend Hawaii Pacific for coming in after a hard game down at Concordia and battling back from a 2-0 deficit," said head coach Rob Walker. "We have had three tough one goal losses when we could have forced overtime or won the match. We need to work on building our possession and defending in training and against opponents but we have a bright future in the GNAC."

Madsen led all Saints with three shots, all landing on goal. Kyle Witzel, Leigh and Navarro each recorded two shots.

Small got the start at keeper for the Saints, going all 90 minutes, making three saves on 13 shots faced.

The Saints wrapped out non-conference and will begin the GNAC season with a road match against Western Washington on September 21 at 4:00 p.m.
