Saints' Soccer Battles For Tie Against Central Washington At Home

LACEY, Wash. - Behind Lauren Allison's second goal of the season and a stellar performance from Ali Koehler that ended with 11 saves, the Saints tied Central Washington 1-1 in double overtime at home on Saturday.

The Saints (0-8-1, 0-3-1) and the Wildcats (1-5-3, 0-2-2) each were presented with opportunities to take an early in the match, with Koehler making three saves in the first 17 minutes. SMU's chances came on two corner kicks from Madison Walker, the second leading to an attacking chance for Dulce Armas, who's shot was deflected by a teammate, preventing the goal.

In the 38th minute, Lauren Allison connected on a pass from Brittany Orlosky, in the middle of the box, five yards out for her second goal in four matches. The Saints repelled two corner kicks from the Wildcats to turn the momentum and fire off two shots on goal in the closing minutes of the first half.

Coming out of halftime, Central Washington controlled the ball, taking three shots in the first seven minutes, with one bouncing off the right side post. However, the 54th minute, after a cross from the far side of the field found Kelsey Bechtholdt, who then connected with Sophia Keenan in the box, Keenan tied the match on a shot from left to right.

The Wildcats continued the barrage on Koehler, yet, despite being outshot 18-1 in the second half, Koehler kept the match knotted at 1-1 by making seven saves and forcing an overtime period.

In the first overtime, Central Washington drove the length of the pitch and connected on a shot that landed on target; however, saved once again by Koehler.  Koehler made one more save in the 10 minutes and a shot from Madison Walker found its' way past the defense but into the hands of the Wildcats' keeper to end the first overtime.

In the final 10 minutes, CWU took two shots, both missing wide of their target and the match came to a close with a 1-1 draw.

"So proud of the determination and fight the team showed today," said head coach Heather Cato. "Every player stepped up and did their part to help us see it through. Hats off to Ali Koehler's individual effort and grit between the posts."

Lauren Allison came off the bench for a critical 68 minutes that resulted in three shots, all on goal and one goal. Allison now has six shots for the season, five on goal and two goals. Orlosky finshed the match with two shots and her first assist of the season after playing all 110 minutes Armas, Walker, Selesha Harrah, Jade Castaneda and Kiersten Madsen combined for five shots, three on goal.

Ali Koehler tied her season-high 11 saves that was set against Notre Dame de Namur on September 2. Koehler faced 30 shots on the match, and 13 of which hit goal.

The Saints close out their four-game home stand against Concordia University on Thursday, October 5. First touch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and live stats and video will be available of the match on smusaints.com.
