Saints Road Trip To California - The start of the 2017 season did not go as planned as the Saints traveled down to California for two matches against Cal State Monterey Bay and Notre Dame de Namur. The Saints lost both matches, giving up nine goals and scoring one of their own. Despite the two losses, the Saints found silver linings in their games, starting with
Ali Koehler. Koehler played the entire 90 minutes against Notre Dame de Namur, where she made 11 saves, tying her for seventh in most saves in a match in SMU history.
Shea McKnight began her season with a goal, coming in the final minute of the Cal State Monterey Bay game. She was assisted by
Jade Castaneda.
First SMU Soccer Matches Broadcasted at Home - The September 8 match against Westminster College at the SMU Soccer Field will be broadcasting live video on Stretch Internet Portal for the first time in school history. All SMU home soccer matches in the 2017 season will be broadcasted on Stretch Internet and links to the video and live stats can be found on smusaints.com.
Northwest University Preview - The Eagles of Northwest have the started the season 3-2 and are currently on a two game winning streak. Katie Michkiosky leads the Eagles' attack with five goals and 10 points, and is assisted by Nadine Huff (two goals, one assist). Madison Morrow leads the team with four assists and is second with six points. Kat Sanchez has received the most minutes at keeper, and has rewarded Northwest with only allowing two goals in 289 minutes and a .900 save percentage with 18 saves. Kierstin Patefield and Ashlyn Juul have combined for 13 saves in two matches. The Eagles look to strick early with eight of their 13 goals coming in the first half.
Westminster College Preview - The Griffins picked up their first win of the season on Monday, taking down Davenport and improving their record to 1-1. Westminster dropped their first match of the season, 2-0, against Cal Poly Pomona. Ellie Echevario and Sara Weixkler have accounted for both the Griffins' goals. Breanna Empey managed her first clean sheet of the season on Monday while making two saves.
Pacific Lutheran Preview - The Lutes have the started the young 2017 season 1-1 after defeating Franklin & Marshall 3-0 and dropping 1-0 to Messiah last week. The Lutes will host The Evergreen State College before hosting the Saints on September 10. Leah Magee completed the hat trick by scoring all three goals for the Lutes in their season opener. Magee has taken four shots on the season and has recorded six total points. Machaela Graddy and Liz Griffith each have one assist. Natalie Robinson has played all 180 minutes at keeper for the Lutes, making seven saves on eight shots for an 87.5 save percentage. Robinson was credited with a shutout in the 3-0 victory. Two of the three goals for the Lutes have come in the second half; however, they have been outshot 23-22 by their opponents.
