Saints' Trip To Portland – Over the weekend, the Saints traveled to Portland, Oregon unto the campus off GNAC opponent Concordia University to face San Francisco State and Humboldt State. First up was San Francisco State where three early first half goals proved to be too much of burden to overcome, as the Saints fell 5-2 in the season opener. Despite being down by three in the opening minutes, the Saints responded quickly with a goal from McKray John. Leading off the second half, the Gators punched in a goal; however, the Saints once again called the call with a goal from freshman Edgar Iniguez just 49 seconds later. In the second match of the trip, SMU faced Humboldt State and both teams squared up equally in the first half, with four shots, one on goal and the score remaining tied at 0-0. Both offenses put pressure on the defenses in the second half, with the Saints connecting for 10 shots and the Jacks taking seven shots, with three finding the back of the net.

Saints On The Road To California – After SMU travels to Kirkland, Washington on Tuesday, the Saints will fly down to California for two matches. The first will take place on Sunday, September 10 against Cal State LA before facing Cal State San Bernardino on Tuesday, September 12. The Men's soccer team travels to California a week after the Women's team traveled down for two matches.

Witzel and Iniguez lead the Saints' attack – A fair of forwards that connected in the preseason, Kyle Witzel and Edgar Iniguez have taken more shots than any other combo in the GNAC to date. Witzel's seven shots, along with Iniguez's six shots have proved to be a burden on opposing team's defenses and have translated to one goal.

Northwest Preview – The Eagles of the Cascade Conference in the NAIA are 2-2 on the season after winning their last match 3-0 over Linfield College at home. The Eagles' first win of the season came in an overtime match against University of Antelope Valley, 5-4. Max Schellmann leads the team with two goals, on just two shots, and is tied for the lead in points with four. Six Eagles have all scored a goal this season, proving to be a balanced attack from Northwest. Jack MacDonald and Alex Ballard are tied at the top of the leaderboard with four points. Daniel Christenson has played every minute at keeper for the Eagles, allowing nine goals while making 24 saves for a 72.7 save percentage. Christenson's one shut out came in their last match against Linfield. Four of Northwest's eight goals have come in the first half, with three in second half and the last one in overtime.

Cal State LA Preview – Out of the CCAA, Cal State LA is 2-0 on the young season, defeating both Bethesda College, 4-0, and Point Loma, 3-0. The Golden Eagles' offense is led by Julian Zamora, who has recorded two goals on a team-leading six shots and four on goal. Miguel Galvan Lara, Damian Roszczyk, Rigoberto Maciel and Hakon Laugsand each have one goal. David Elizaga currently has three assists and is followed by Eddie Leon with two assists. Zamora and Antonio Rosas each have a game-winning goal under their belt. Steven Barrera has made both starts at goalkeeper for Cal State LA, and has yet to allow a goal while making six saves on 18 shots faced. The Golden Eagles will host Concordia Irvine earlier in the week before the Saints come to town on Sunday.
