Collective Team Effort Lifts Saints Over Concordia

LACEY, Wash. – In a full team effort, as all 10 Saints scored, Saint Martin's controlled Concordia for a full 40 minutes en route to a 75-62 victory inside Marcus Pavilion on Saturday night.
 
10 Saints checked into the game, and 10 Saints got on the board, as Saint Martin's (11-5, 4-4) rolled Concordia (4-12, 0-8) and held the Cavaliers to only 62 points on 19-for-56 (33.9 percent) shooting.
 
The Saints wasted no time applying pressure to Concordia, opening the game on an 8-0 run, highlighted by dunks from Jordan Kitchen and Matt Dahlen. The Cavaliers quickly responded with a 9-0 run of their own to take their first lead of the game with 14:19 remaining in the first half. 
 
Coming off the bench was BJ Standley who found EJ Boyce in the corner for a 3-pointer to snap the CU run and put Saint Martin's back on top. Boyce's basket jumpstarted the Saints' offense and led to an 11-0 run, putting SMU up 19-9 with 11:26 remaining. Boyce and Chavez continued the Saints' offensive attack, extending their lead to 31-15 with 5:27 left in the half.
 
Concordia began chipping away at the Saints' lead, using a 9-2 advantage to trim the lead to single digits with 3:23 minutes left. The Saints and Cavaliers traded baskets down the stretch and with a tip-in by Tavian Henderson, SMU took a 38-30 lead into halftime.
 
The Saints quickly extended their lead back to double-digits, with a 7-2 run; highlighted by another Boyce 3-pointer, to open the second half.  Both sides continued to go back-and-forth, with neither side gaining an advantage, with Saint Martin's still leading 49-40 with 13:20 remaining.
 
Starting with a put back dunk by Henderson, Saint Martin's went on a 7-0 run to open up their largest lead of the game at 56-40 with 11:20 remaining. Baskets by Boyce, Dahlen and Standley kept Concordia at bay and pushed SMU out to a 67-50 lead with 6:00 minutes remaining.
 
The Saints led by as many as 20 in the closing minutes of the game; however, Concordia was able to trim the lead to 12 with a 12-4 run. Saint Martin's sealed the victory at the line and clinched their 11th victory of the season with a 75-62 win over Concordia.
 
Boyce led the team in points at 14 and rebounds at seven, a new career-high, along with three assists and no turnovers in 33 minutes of action. Henderson added 12 points and six rebounds while Standley finished at 10 points, three rebounds and three assists from the bench. Dahlen was fourth Saint to reach the double-digit mark, ending with 10 points and six rebounds. Kitchen, in 21 minutes of action, recorded six points, four blocks and three rebounds.
 
Saint Martin's as a team shot 29-for-64 (45.3 percent) from the field, 8-for-25 (32.0 percent) beyond the arc, and 9-for-14 (64.3 percent) at the free throw line. The Saints collected 44 rebounds and 15 assists with only nine turnovers, along with six blocks and four steals.
