Hat Trick Leads Simon Fraser Past SMU

BURNABY, CA – A hat trick by Emma Pringle, two goals in the first half, and one more in the second, fueled Simon Fraser in their 3-0 defeat of the Saints on Tuesday night.

The Saints (5-10-0, 1-8-0) GNAC struggles continued north of the border, as SMU failed to stop the Clan's (9-3-1, 7-1-1) leading scorer. Saint Martin's managed to fire off eight shots in match; however, only two landed on goal, and none resulted in a goal.

Simon Fraser took an early lead over the Saints, punching in Pringle's first goal in the 17 minute mark on a thru ball to the middle of the box. The second goal for Pringle came just five minutes later, on a double assist and put SFU up 2-0. The Saints recorded their first shot in the 26th minute off of Jolene Kvinsland. Kvinsland and Natalie Brown each recorded a shot down the stretch but all missed wide of the net.

In the second half, Pringle put the match away with her third goal, completing the hat trick, in the 54th minute. Pringle received the ball in the middle of the box, turned and fired it to the back of the net. SMU generated more offensive chances in the second half, taking five shots, with two landing on goal. However, none were able to squeeze past the Clan's defense and SMU fell 3-0 on the road.

Kvinsland led the team with three shots, while Gloria Petri and Amber Burbridge each finished with two shots and one on goal. Brown collected the seventh shot. Sara Christensen got the start at goalie, going the full 90 minutes, facing 21 shots and making six saves.

The Saints travel to Central Washington for a revenge match as the Wildcats snuck away from Lacey last week with a 3-2 win in double overtime. The match, Saturday, October 20,, is set to begin at noon with live stats and video available on smusaints.com.
