Saints Say Farewell To Four Seniors In Season Finale

LACEY, Wash. – On the final night for the Saints, and the playing careers of four seniors, Molly Cichosz, Courtney Misner, Rachel Gondrezick, and Megan Vernoy, the Saints fell to Simon Fraser in three sets.
 
Unforced errors proved to be fatal for the Saints, as SMU collected 32 kills, but also racked up 26 attacking errors. Simon Fraser collected 10 blocks and outscored the to a tune of 52-38 to put an end to the Saints' season.
 
Simon Fraser jumped out to an early 11-5 lead and the Saints' were unable to dig themselves out of the early deficit. SMU cut the score to as little as four, but the Clan managed to never let it get any closer and clinched the 25-18 set one win.
 
In the second set, the score was tied at 6-6, before Simon Fraser broke open a lead on a 9-3 run. The Clan closed out the set on a 6-1 tear, while the Saints' offense struggled to connect on attacks and get any momentum rolling.
 
In the third and final set, the Saints' offense found more a rhythm, with kills by Vernoy, Ililani Kamaka, and Alyssa Bartlett provided some spark. Despite the improved play, the Saints faced a 19-12 deficit, but managed to pull within one on a 7-1 run. It started with a solo block by Bridgette Bourgouin, and was a team effort, with five different Saints collecting at least one kill. Simon Fraser managed to regroup at the end, and scored the final four points to end the match at 25-20.
 
Vernoy led the way once again with 11 kills, followed by Kamaka at seven, and Gondrezick at five. Bartlett managed 16 assists, and Gondrezick (14) and Misner (17) tallied a combined 31 digs.
 
The Saints finished the season with a 4-22 mark, and a 2-18 record in the GNAC. Vernoy and Gondrezick led the offense in kills and points, while Bartlett and Misner were leaders in the assists and digs categories.
