Wildcats Capitalize On Saints' Errors In Series Finale

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Saints struggled defensively, allowing Central Washington to capitalize and take both ends of the doubleheader, 11-1 and 15-1, to secure the series victory on Sunday.

In the first game, Central Washington ran away with the game early, landing a six spot in the third inning. The Wildcats continued to add to the score, plating two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning.

The Saints' lone run of the game came in the seventh inning when Micah McNicoll's sacrifice fly drove in Colton Peha. Central Washington added one final run in the eighth to win 11-1.

Mickey Walker (0-4) got the start and earned the loss after allowing six runs on five hits and four walks. Benjamin Wadowski threw 1.1 innings of relief, giving up four runs before Garrison Ritter threw the final 3.2 innings, only giving up one run, which was unearned.

The Wildcats once again took an early lead; however, on an unusual play. After a strikeout, which would have been the third out, the runner reached base on a muffed throw by the first baseman, allowing the Wildcat runner to score.

In the third inning, Kahi Hirano and Ryne Oshiro went back-to-back with singles, setting up Steven Sordahl who drove in the first run of the game for SMU on a sac fly.

The game remained tied until the fourth inning when two errors by the Saints' infield allowed Central Washington to score three unearned runs and regain a 4-1 lead. However, Central Washington capitalized on the Saints' defensive errors, blowing open a lead and cruising to a 15-1 lead.

Saint Martin's continues their road trip with four-game series against Concordia, starting Friday March 30. Live stats of the games can be found on smusaints.com.
