Baseball Slugs 18 Runs In Doubleheader Split At Central Washington

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – In what counted as home games for the Saints, despite being played at Central Washington, Saint Martin's took the slugfest 18-10 before falling in the second bill 4-2 to the Wildcats.

The Saints (7-27, 6-19) piled on the Wildcats (19-17, 14-12) in the early goings of the first game. The Saints scored four in the third, three in the fourth, four in the fifth and five more in the sixth. Bryant Nakagawa hit a home run, his second of his career, while Kahi Hirano had a bases-loaded triple. SMU led 17-4 after six innings.

Hirano led the team with five RBIs while six Saints had two or more RBIs. Ryne Oshiro and Austin Feist both had three hit games and eight Saints collected at least one hit in the game. SMU scored 18 runs on 16 hits with seven walks.

Clark Streby (4-3) earned another victory after throwing the first six innings before Robbie Shineman, Zach Stevenson, and Matthew Dunaway all threw one inning of relief.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Wildcats were able to calm down the Saints' bats, limiting them to two runs on seven hits. Colton Peha scored on a balk in the first inning, before driving in a run in the fifth on a fielder's choice. Peha collected three of the Saints' hits.

Tanner Inouye (2-3) nearly went the distance for a second straight game, going six innings, but allowed three runs, two earned on seven hits for the loss. Shineman and Ryan Dorney combined to throw the final inning of relief.

The Wildcats scored the first run of the game in the first on a RBI single up the middle. They later regained the lead in the second on a groundout, and stretched their lead to 3-1 on a RBI double to right in the fifth. Their final insurance run came in the seventh through a single on the left side.

The Saints and Wildcats will complete their four game series with a doubleheader tomorrow, Sunday April 15 at noon. Live stats and video of the games will be available with links on smusaints.com.
