LACEY, Wash. – The Saints' 1-4 hitters combined to collect 17 of Saint Martin's 30 hits on the day, along with
Aaron Shoup's seven hits, one run of relief as SMU split the series with Concordia, 12-7 and 11-5.
Adam Eskil collected six hits while
Austin Feist hit his sixth home run of the year as the top of the order for the Saints continuously got on base and drove in runs. The Saints' 20 hits in the first game was the most hits in a single game this year. Shoup pieced together his best outing of the year, going seven innings, allowing only one run with four strikeouts.
Concordia (18-30, 17-21) jumped on the Saints in the early goings, scoring six runs in the second inning.
Micah McNicoll got the Saints (11-35, 10-28) on the board first with two RBIs in the bottom of the second on a two out single to right center. Feist cut into the lead with his sixth home run of the year, a two run shot to left center.
The Cavaliers added one more run in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-4. The Saints began chipping away, scoring two runs in the fifth, before tying the game with a bases loaded walk in the sixth.
Dakota Hill put the Saints on top with a sac fly.
Saint Martin's added three insurance runs in the seventh and topped it off with a RBI double from
Colton Peha to win 12-7.
In the second game, Concordia once again led early, taking a 3-0 lead in the first. Eskil doubled down the left field line in the bottom of the first to score
Ryne Oshiro. SMU tied the game later in the inning on a Peha single to left field, scoring two.
The Saints took the lead in the bottom of the second after Sordahl singled through the left side. However, Concordia's offense sparked starting in the third, scoring eight straight runs and cruising to an 11-5.
The Saints bullpen combined to throw 11.1 innings in the two games, allowing only two earned runs and struck out five Cavaliers.
Saint Martin's concludes the 2018 season on Senior day tomorrow with a doubleheader against Concordia starting at noon.
