Saints Drop To Seattle Pacific At Home

LACEY, Wash. – Seattle Pacific jumped on the Saints in the early moments of the match and never looked back, as the Falcons beat SMU 4-0.

A goal in the opening five minutes for the Falcons (5-1-1, 1-0-0) gave SPU the advantage and the momentum. The Saints' (4-3-0, 0-2-0) offense struggled to find ways to create opportunities in the first half, ending with three shots. Seattle Pacific, a strong second half team, outscoring their opponents 9-0, capitalized and scored three goals, including two in the final minutes to win 4-0.

SMU, after falling behind in the fifth minute, did have two shots falling on target, with Kylee Sarchett and Shea McKnight hitting on goal. The next SMU came 23 minutes later in the second half, when McKnight's second attempt was blocked.

In the second half, Amber Burbridge recorded two shots, the first missing high and the second being saved by SPU. However, the Falcons put in their second goal in the 60th minute to extend their lead to 2-0. The Saints' attempt at a comeback faded when Seattle Pacific managed to score in both the 84th and 87th minutes to seal the 4-0 win.

Saint Martin's finished the match with 10 shots, seven coming in the second half, led by McKnight at four. Ali Koehler got the start at goalkeeper, recording five saves on 23 shots faced.

The Saints take the next week off before hosting Western Washington at home on Thursday September 27 at 3:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available for free on the Saints' Digital Network on smusaints.com.
