PORTLAND, Ore. – From leading the nationally-ranked Saints' basketball to two victories, to hitting an NCAA provisional mark in the men's high jump,
Luke Chavez and
Tyler Cronk were each named GNAC Players of the Week.
The GNAC Preseason Player of the Year, after missing last week due to injuries, returned to the court in style. Chavez started the week off with a 15-point performance against Alaska Anchorage, in 26 minutes of action. He followed it up with a 25-point effort, including 17 in the second half, as the Saints overcame Alaska in overtime. For the week, Chavez averaged 20 points per game, and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Cronk, in his first ever NCAA Division-II meet, did not disappoint. The freshman took home second overall in the high jump at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial, hosted by University of Idaho. His mark of 6-feet 10.75-inches, leads the GNAC and also qualifies as an NCAA provisional mark. Cronk also competed in the long jump, placing sixth overall with a mark of 21-feet 7.25-inches.
The awards mark the first of the year for both athletes, and the fourth of Chavez's career.
