BURNABY, Canada – Early offense and a second half goal by Simon Fraser proved to be the difference maker the Saints' 2-0 road loss on Thursday night.
Simon Fraser quickly claimed a lead over the Saints, punching in a goal just five minutes into the match. Saint Martin's was able to hold the Clan in check for the rest of the first half and keep within a one goal reach. However, Simon Fraser put away the victory with a goal in the 68th minute, the second of the match for Giuliana Zaurrini.
Saint Martin's created opportunities in the second half, with three of their four shots landing on target. In the end, SMU was unable to convert any of their chances into goals, and fell 2-0.
"We started the game slow and Simon Fraser took advantage of that," said head coach
Heather Cato. "At halftime, we made some adjustments, and were able to find a better rhythm. We created several very good chances, but weren't able to find the back of the net. Now it's going to be about how we turn around and respond on Saturday that will show the character of this team."
The Saints travel back across the border and head over the mountains on Saturday for a match against Central Washington. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m. with live stats and video available on smusaints.com.
