SEATTLE – Despite three double-digit kill performances, highlighted by
Mackenzie Carter's 17, the Saints fell short in a four set rumble with Seattle Pacific on Tuesday night.
The first set open with both sides battling to a 10-9 SPU edge. The Falcons broke open the lead with an 8-0 run, and the Saints were never able to close the gap to less than four.
In the following the set, it began a lot like the first, with both sides evenly matched. Saint Martin's, trailing 11-10, found their footing and rattled off 10 of the next 12 points. Carter fueled the run with four kills and powered the Saints to a 25-19 set victory to tie the match.
Saint Martin's lead throughout the early goings of the third set, with their last lead coming at 11-10. Seattle Pacific managed to string together a couple short bursts down the stretch, giving them back the lead in the match with a 25-20 set victory.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead in the fourth set, leading 16-9. Saint Martin's managed to trim the lead down to as little as four, but ultimately came up short in the 25-19 loss.
Carter recorded her sixth straight match with 10 or more kills, and her fourth double-double of the year. She finished the match with 17 kills, along with 15 digs, and three aces.
Emily Gooding and
Kylie Coon each added 10 kills apiece, and along with Carter, the three added up to 37 of the Saints' 47 kills.
Alyssa Bartlett had herself a double-double at 36 assists and 12 digs, while
Kylie Alos put together a 23-dig performance in the back line.
Saint Martin's returns home on Saturday for their final match of the 2019 season. The Saints host Montana State Billings at 7:00 p.m. with live stats and video available on smusaints.com.
