Madsen Breaks School Record In Loss To Seattle Pacific

SEATTLE – The second half heroics of Brandon Madsen and the Saints came up short in their 4-2 loss on the road to Seattle Pacific on Saturday night.

Madsen punched home his 17th goal of the season in the 64th minute, breaking the school record, set by him in 2017 for the most goals in a single season. Madsen continued to dominate, scoring another goal in the 78th minute to pull the Saints within two. Oscar Aguilar and Amri Mwenyeheri were both credited with assists on the goals.

Seattle Pacific jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the 15th minute, before adding another in the 26th minute. Saint Martin's limited SPU to the two goals in the first half to keep the match within reach.

The Falcons secured the victory in the early goings of the second half. Seattle Pacific scored the third goal in the 60th minute, and just two minutes later, added their fourth.

Despite the run from the Saints, and Madsen, at the end, Saint Martin's fell 4-2 on the road.

"We've had a run of good games in the last couple of weeks," said head coach Rob Walker. "Tonight, SPU came out and brought a good game plant and executed well within their system. For us, we did not play simply when needed, and tried to do too much when simplicity would've done the trick. There were some bright spots. Some adjustments in the game, and Brandon Madsen's two goals were classy. On a rainy night, the silver lining in a cloud is something you need to savor."

The Saints combined for 13 shots, with Madsen leading with four and Jose Marquez and Aguilar adding three. Dylan Shaw played all 90 minutes in goal, making five saves.

Saint Martin's returns home for one final match of 2019, hosting Simon Fraser on Saturday, November 16 at 1:30 p.m. The Saints will honor their seven seniors pregame. Live stats and video of the match will be available on smusaints.com.
