TUCSON, Ariz. – In the tournament finale, the Saints fell to St. Mary's (TX) 4-1 with
Devyn Connolly collected two hits and the Saints' lone RBI of the game in the second inning.
St. Mary's struck first with a run in the first frame of the game, scoring on a two RBI double. The two runs proved to be all the Rattlers needed in terms of run support.
With one out in the second inning,
Trinity Favela singled to set up Connolly. Connolly connected on a pitch and drove it for a double, bringing home Favela all the way from first. However, the Rattlers worked out of the tying run on second with back-to-back strikeouts.
St. Mary's added insurance runs in the fifth inning, droving home two on back-to-back singles to extend the lead to 4-1. The Saints managed to get a runner on in the seventh, but was unable to manufacture any runs.
Lauren Maley (0-3) pitched all six innings for the Saints, allowing four runs on six hits, while punching out three hitters. The Saints fell to 2-3 in the tournament and will travel to Oregon for their next games.
Saint Martin's will face Corban (NAIA) on Friday, Feb 22 at 6:15 p.m. to start off the Cavalier Classic, hosted by Concordia.
