Saints Drop GNAC Opener to Seattle Pacific

LACEY, Wash. – In the opener of GNAC action, the Saints fell victim to Seattle Pacific in a 2-0 loss at home on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons rattled off 15 shots in the first half, with the Saints' defense holding strong. Sophie Mendoza recorded six saves in the first half along, forcing a 0-0 tie at halftime.

Seattle Pacific struck quickly in the second half, scoring just 79 seconds into the second half. The final blow came in the 66th minute when the Falcons scored the second and final goal of the match.

Mendoza concluded the match five saves, while the Saints' offense was unable to get control of the match and force opportunities.

"Seattle Pacific is a good team who plays fast, and fights for 90 minutes," said head coach Heather Cato. 'With that said, our team played them straight up, and I'm proud of the overall effort we put out there today. We still have things that have to be cleaned up on both sides of the ball. We will continue to work on that to prepare for next week of GNAC play."

The Saints travel to Simon Fraser before Western Washington on Thursday and Saturday respectively. Live stats and video of the match will be available on smusaints.com.
