SAN MARCOS, Calif. – In a closely fought match with Bentley, the Saints were unable to pull off the win, falling in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17, 25-23, despite a near record setting performance by
Kylie Alos.
In the three sets, Alos recorded 26 digs, which was second most in the three set match in program history.
Mackenzie Carter was the lone Saint to reach the double-digit kill mark with 10, along with her 10 digs.
Tianah Sanders and
Ililani Kamaka combined for nine kills, while
Alyssa Bartlett led with 12 assists.
Saint Martin's established an early control in the first set, jumping out to a 14-8 lead. However, Bentley stormed back and won the set with a 11-2 stretch.
Bentley's surge continued into the second set, rushing out to an 18-8 lead. The Saints were able to gain some momentum near the end of the set, cutting into the lead, but ended up falling 25-17.
Runs back and forth dominated the third and final set, with the score tied at 22-22. Bentley ultimately found the final rally and took home the decisive set with a 25-23 final.
"This group is learning a lot through this tournament," said head coach
Jon Killingbeck. "It's what the preseason is for."
