Saints Light Up Scoreboard In Doubleheader Split

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Saints bats took a game to get hot, but once they did, the runs did not stop coming. Saint Martin's the series opener to Concordia 1-0, before trouncing them 17-8 in the second bill of the doubleheader.

A first inning double to center field scored the lone run of the opener, as Tanner Inouye (0-2) pitched a nearly lights out game. The righty went six innings, allowing only four hits, walking four, and striking out a season high eight batters. Ryan Driscoll came in to throw the final two innings, retiring all six that he faced, including two strikeouts.

However, despite the nearly air tight pitching for the Saints (6-4, 1-1 GNAC), they were outdueled on the mound by Concordia's (2-9, 1-1) Sasha Jabusch. Jabusch threw the rare complete game shutout, allowing only three hits, and one walk, while striking out 15 Saints' batters.

Aaron Renaud was the only Saints to success against Jabusch, picking up two of the Saints' three hits.

In the second game, the script flipped for SMU. They went from four baserunners in the opener to 25 in the second game. The Saints did all of their damage in just three innings, scoring six runs in the second, four in the fourth, and seven in the seventh.

SMU also collected 17 hits on the day; however, not a single hit was for extra bases. Hunter Kosmider, Ty Matsunami, Ryne Oshiro, and Bryant Nakagawa all finished the game with two RBIs. Matsunami led the Saints with three hits. Eleven different Saints got their name in the hit ledger, and the Saints also drew eight walks on the night.

Harrison Goebel (3-0) picked up the win after going 4.1 innings in the start, allowing six runs with two strikeouts. Jacob Woodall tossed 1.2 shutout innings, striking out three while Nathan Martinez closed the game in the seventh inning.

The Saints and the Cavaliers will square off tomorrow, Sunday at noon with live stats and video of the doubleheader available on smusaints.com.
