Saints Tie History In Sweep Of Western Oregon

LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's made history on Saturday night with their 3-0 sweep of Western Oregon, taking their ninth victory of the season, tying them for the most in a single-season.
 
Saint Martin's (9-11, 2-8) broke the record in 2017, and now share the company for the most wins in a single season since the Saints' joined the NCAA 1998 with the 2021 Saints. Emily Gooding for the fifth straight match recorded double digits kills, leading the way with 12, followed by Tia Allen at 11. Saint Martin's outpaced the Western Oregon (2-15, 0-10) in kills to a tune of 49-to-29. Kylie Alos led the Saints with 18 digs, followed by Abigail Halstead, and Allen with 11.
 
Saint Martin's jumped out to a commanding 14-9 lead in the opening set from production from Gooding, and two Gracie Brenner aces. Western Oregon rallied and managed to take a one-point lead before the Saints closed the door down the stretch. SMU ended the set with five straight points, ending on a kill from Gooding.
 
Western Oregon opened up with a 12-9 lead to start the second set. The Saints responded with four straight points to take the lead, jumpstarting a 9-4 run for the Saints. Saint Martin's looked to be on the verge of cruising to another set victory until Western Oregon rattled off four straight to take a 24-23 lead. But the Saints came back with kills from Allen, and Ilana Sagapolutele to close out the 26-24 set victory.
 
Both sides went back-and-forth for most of the third set, but ultimately it was the Saints who clinched four of the five points to earn the sweep over Western Oregon. Two kills from Kylie Coon, along with kills from Gooding, and Jennifer Soha fueled the closing run.
 
Saint Martin's collected 49 kills on 150 attacks with 29 errors for a .133 hitting percentage. The Saints collected seven aces, four blocks, 41 assists, and 69 digs.
