First Half Deficit Proves Too Much for Saints - Saint Martin's hosted a fast-paced Warner Pacific team that struck early and often to defeat the Saints, 4-1.
The Saints had 11 shots and of those Arjun Gill, Eric Bell, Angel Alvarado-Fajardo, and Jay Mendoza had the shots on goal. Bryce Porter had six saves in the match.
Saints Clip Nighthawks With Golden Goal From Fairhurst In Overtime - There was no shortage of action and drama in the Saints' 5-4 overtime victory over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday afternoon, ending with a golden goal from Jason Fairhurst.
After a quiet first overtime period, Fairhurst scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season, and second game-winner of 2021. The senior's goal in the 106th minute snapped the Saints' eight game losing skid, and captured the Saints' first win in GNAC action this season.
Climbing Up The Record Boards – Entering 2021, Jason Fairhurst was tied for seventh in Saints’ history for most career goals at 10. On the year, Fairhurst has claimed sixth place for himself with four goals, bringing his total to 14. He is currently five goals behind Ruben Orozco (2007-2010) for fifth place. Jose Marquez has suited up for 73 matches, the most all-time in Saint Martin’s history.
GNAC Leaders – Jason Fairhurst enters the week tied for sixth with four goals scored, tied for fifth in points at 11, and ninth in shots at 21. Jose Marquez is tied for eighth in assists at two. Hunter Askland is tied for the lead in the GNAC with 47 saves.
Career Firsts – Ethan Jud notched his first career goal against Northeastern State on September 16. Diego Andrade, and Isaac Hernandez recorded their first SMU goals against UC Colorado Springs on September 17.
Clean Preseason – The Saints began their 2021 with two victories in two exhibition matches beginning with a 2-1 victory over Linfield. SMU followed up with a decisive 4-0 result against Columbia Basin.
Saints Tabbed Fifth In GNAC Preseason Poll - Saint Martin's men's soccer enters the 2021 campaign with a young, but experienced team, after playing 10 matches in the 2020-21 COVID season. The Saints were voted tied for fifth in the GNAC Preseason Poll with Northwest Nazarene.
MSOC First Ever All-American – Brandon Madsen made history for the Saints in the 2019 season, receiving a first-ever program All-American title, along with many other accolades. Madsen ended his final season as a Saint with the most goals scored in a single season at Saint Martin's with 18, along with four assists for 40 total points. Last season, Madsen earned GNAC player of the Year, GNAC first team All-Conference, voted to the D2CCA first team All-Region, United Soccer Coaches third team All-Region, and finally D2CCA second team All-American. Madsen finished his career with 47 goals, nine assists, 103 points, and finished second all-time in GNAC in goals scored in just three seasons as a Saint.
