NAMPA, Idaho – Saint Martin's matched up against the Nighthawks in a tough defensive battle. A goal for Northwest Nazarene in the first half and an own goal by the Saints resulted in a 2-0 victory for NNU.
The Saints (3-6-0, 2-3-0 GNAC) and Northwest Nazarene (4-3-1, 2-3-0 GNAC) were locked in a tightly-contested defensive battle for the majority of the first half. Saint Martin's had their fair share of chances with two shots on goal from
Rebecca Garrison and
Maddie Wolff and two more shots from
Payton Aselton and
Elisabeth Cole. NNU capitalized on an opportunity in the closing minutes of the first half scoring in the 42nd minute of the match to break the stalemate and go into the half with a 1-0 lead over SMU.
After the break, the Saints found a couple opportunities with two shots on goal from
Shelby Clayton and
Rachel Kimura. Kimura had another shot later in the half and Aselton had the last shot for SMU late in the half. The Nighthawks scored a late insurance goal off an own goal in 81st minute of play.
Ali Campigotto had five saves in the match and SMU recorded a total of eight shots in the match with four shots on goal.
