LACEY, Wash. – The Saints saved their best performance of the season for their last game, taking down the Yellowjackets, 2-1 in an overtime thriller.
The Saints took time before the match to honor their five graduating seniors, defender
Jose Marquez, defender
Stephen Murray, midfielder
Cole Mattson, forward
Jason Fairhurst and midfielder
Isaac Hernandez.
SMU (4-13-0, 3-7-0 GNAC) and Montana State Billings (4-9-3, 2-6-2 GNAC) spend the early parts of the first half feeling each other out. MSUB struck first with a goal in 31st minute of the match. Saint Martin's promptly responded with a goal of their own off the leg of Fairhurst assisted by
Brian Licona in the 42nd minute of play. This score held up as the two team went into the half tied.
The teams made their adjustments over the break and came out eager to find an advantage. There were many scoring opportunities and shots but the keepers held their own to keep the match tied at the end of regulation.

Jose Marquez gave his teammates a passionate speech that lit a fire under the team. The Saints went to work immediately in the overtime period, scoring a the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute of the match off the leg of
Arjun Gill assisted by a perfect through pass from none other than Marquez himself.
Hunter Askland got the start in goal and had three saves in the match. Saint Martin's had 18 shots total and six shots on goal from Marquez, Gill, Fairhurst, and
Sean Selanikio.
SMU's season came to a close, with the Saints collecting four wins on the season, three in conference play.
