Potential Starting Lineup –
Nighthawks Best Saints 3-1 In Season Opener – After Saint Martin's tied the game in the 26th minute off the foot of
Justine Pauly, the Nighthawks scored twice more to spoil the Saints' season opener 3-to-1 on Thursday.
Appearing in her first ever collegiate game, Pauly connected on a ball high center of the net to tie the match just 11 seconds after Northwest Nazarene (3-0-0) scored the first goal of the match. Off the kick-off the Saints (0-1-0) quickly worked the ball out to
Daeh Lindquist, who lofted a ball directly to Pauly over the defense, and the sophomore scored over the keeper.
Saints' WSOC Falls Short In Match With NNU – Saint Martin's cut the lead down to one in the second half after a PK goal from
Kiersten Madsen, but the Nighthawks sealed the victory with a 72nd minute.
Saint Martin's (0-2-0) managed to cut into the score when a foul in the Nighthawks' box put Madsen up for a penalty kick. The senior scored her sixth goal of her career, and first since September 15, 2018 against NNU. However, Northwest Nazarene was awarded a penalty kick in the 72nd and the Nighthawks sealed the 3-to-1 victory.
Ten Saints Named To GNAC WSOC All-Academic Team –
Standing Tall In Goal – Sophomore Campigotto quickly emerged as a cornerstone for the program moving forward, and was named a GNAC second team All-Conference goalie. In her opening act, Campigotto recorded a team-high 64 saves, a 74.4 save percentage, and one combined shutout. Her 5.82 saves per match ranked third best in the conference, and are ninth most in a single season in school history. Her standout performances came against Montana State Billings, notching 13 saves in the Saints' 2-1 victory over the Yellowjackets. Campigotto made 10 or more saves in three matches, collecting 11 against both Hawaii Pacific and nationally-ranked Western Washington.
Saints' Swiss Army Knife - Senior Caceres became a versatile piece for the Saints, playing multiple positions, and logging over 1,400 minutes of action. For her efforts on the field, Caceres was voted by the GNAC coaches as an All-Conference honorable mention. In 16 matches, she made 13 starts, including the final 10 games of the year. Caceres had four shot attempts on the year, with three coming against Warner Pacific.
Shooting For The Moon - Sophomore
Maddie Wolff led the team in scoring last year, scoring three goals one assist for seven points. Wolff scored one against Whitman, and two against Montana State Billings, one in each showing versus the Yellowjackets. Wolff's highlight was an overtime stunner against MSUB on the road, scoring a long range blast as the clock was expiring in extras to notch a 2-1 victory for Saint Martin's.
Extended Off Season – It had been 489 days since the Saints took to the pitch, with their last match coming on Nov. 9, 2019 against MSU Billings. It will be 503 days between home matches for SMU.
