Saints' VB Makes History In Opening Night Of Action – Making his NCAA coaching debut, Dan Behnke and the Saints' volleyball program made history on Tuesday by knocking off Seattle Pacific in a doubleheader split.

For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Saints (1-1) were able to defeat their rivals from up north, Seattle Pacific (3-1). After dropping the opening two sets, the Saints rallied to upset the Falcons in five sets. Saint Martin's nearly completed the sweep, going five more sets before ultimately falling. Kylie Coon led the way with her 26 kills, while Mackenzie Carter added 23 kills, and five aces to power the Saints' offense.

Coon and Benetti Sweep GNAC Awards – After a historic five-set win over Seattle Pacific, both Kylie Coon and Giselle Benetti swept the GNAC Player of the Week awards in volleyball.

Coon proved to be the driving force in the opening weekend, collecting 26 kills on 75 swings, along with 19 digs, and two aces. For Benetti, she came into the first match in the second set as libero, and the momentum swung for the Saints. She collected 34 digs, and two aces on the week.

It's Been Awhile – For the first time in 465 days, the longest time between matches in Saint Martin's history, the Saints will take to Marcus Pavilion and the TwinStar court.

Historic SeasonKylie Alos last season broke the school record for most digs per set as the junior ended the year at 4.92. Her 428 total digs was also third most in a single season.

Experienced Squad – 15 of the Saints' 20 players on the roster were on the team in 2019, and six of them have at least two years of experience.

New Era – Saint Martin's volleyball begins a new era as Dan Behnke takes over as head coach. Behnke was hired back in February of 2020 and comes to SMU after coaching for five season at NAIA Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. During his time at Huston-Tillotson, Behnke went 94-52, including a 75-20 in the last three years. Prior to his arrival, Huston-Tillotson went 16-145 in a five-year span.

Sister Connection – You might notice the Saints have two players both with the last name Gooding, both from Renton, Washington, and both attended Kentridge High School. And yes they are sisters. Emily and Madeline Gooding will join each other on the court for the first time in four years playing for the same team.
