Saints Suffer First Loss of Season Against Nighthawks – Northwest Nazarene scored early in the first half and late in the second for Saint Martin's to suffer its first loss of the season, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Saints Field.

It was a slow start for both teams in the first half, with the first shot of the game not happening until the 12th minute. The Saints held the Nighthawks scoreless in the first 29 minutes, saving one of their two shot attempts. It wasn't until the 30-minute mark that the Nighthawks were the first to get on the board and took a 1-0 lead over SMU. The Saints struggled to find the back of the net for the rest of the half with three shot attempts and one saved by the goalkeeper.

Second Half Goals Cause Draw With Nighthawks – Saint Martin's and Northwest Nazarene went goal for goal in the second half of the season opener, with neither team being able to find the back of the net in double overtime.

Two minutes into the second half, sophomore Jason Aragon scored the first goal of 2021 with a ball low center on the goal, marking his first career goal. The Nighthawks answered back in the 62nd minute with a low center goal of their own to tie the game 1-1. Both sides had multiple opportunities to take the victory in the remaining of the second half, but neither team were able to connect on a final goal.

Aragon Strikes Back – In the opening contest of the season, sophomore Jason Aragon found the back of the net, striking back for an equalizer in the second half against Northwest Nazarene on March 4. This marked the first goal of the season for the Saints and his first career goal.

MSOC First Ever All-AmericanBrandon Madsen made history for the Saints in the 2019 season, receiving a first-ever program All-American title, along with many other accolades. Madsen ended his final season as a Saint with the most goals scored in a single season at Saint Martin's with 18, along with four assists for 40 total points. Last season, Madsen earned GNAC player of the Year, GNAC first team All-Conference, voted to the D2CCA first team All-Region, United Soccer Coaches third team All-Region, and finally D2CCA second team All-American. Madsen finished his career with 47 goals, nine assists, 103 points, and finished second all-time in GNAC in goals scored in just three seasons as a Saint.

Fairhurst Takes The Lead - Senior Jason Fairhurst proved to be an essential offensive player on the team last season, logging 1,375 minutes of action, starting in 17 out of 18 matches. Fairhurst has taken over the head spot in the offense for the Saints, replacing All-American Brandon Madsen in the lead forward position. Fairhurst scored five goals for the Saints, ranking eight best in the GNAC, and assisted in five goals, ranking ninth in the GNAC. For these efforts on the field, Fairhurst was voted by the GNAC coaches as an All-Conference honorable mention.

Newbies Take The Field – The Saints have shown a lot of new faces on the field in the first games of the season. Seven fresh faces have had starts for the Saints thus far, including David Settle, Jay Mendoza, and Caden Martin all with one start and Brian Licona, Christian Gordon, and Arjun Gill with two starts. They have combined for six of the Saints' 22 total shots on the season.

Extended Off Season – It had been 474 days since the Saints took to the pitch, with their last match coming on Nov. 16, 2019 against Simon Fraser.
