Kylie Coon Shines In Saints' Loss To CBU

LACEY, Wash. – In just 48 hours, the Saints went from no games to having a home match against Division-I California Baptist on Tuesday. Sophomore Kylie Coon hit .346 and collected 12 kills as the Saints fell in straight sets, 25-13, 25-23, 25-14.

The Saints (1-3) started to find their offensive flow in the second set, outscoring California Baptist (8-8) in kills 15-to-12. However, despite the increase in efficiency, the Saints were unable to close out the second set.

Without All-Conference outside hitter Mackenzie Carter, the offense fell on the arm of Coon, and the sophomore carried the load. Her 12 kills were tied for the most of any player in the match, and accounted for nearly half of the Saints' kills on the day.

Emily Gooding and Annika Briggs each ended with six kills each and combined with Coon's 12, the three added up to 24 of the Saints' 29 kills. Kylie Alos led the defense with 10 digs, while Analise Hitchcock had 23 assists, and Gracie Brenner and Coon had two aces each.

The Saints gave the Lancers a good run in the second set, tying the score eight different times. Despite being down 22-17, the Saints made a run with kills from Gooding, Coon, and Briggs, along with an ace from Giselle Benetti to cut the score to just one. In the end, the Lancers were able to squeeze by the Saints and escape with a 25-23 victory.

Saint Martin's returns to the court on Friday, April 9 at 6:00 PM against NAIA Northwest. Live stats and streaming links will be available on smusaints.com.
