LACEY, Wash. – In Saint Martin's home opener against Western Oregon, the Saints were tied 0-0 heading into the second half. It took 14 minutes for the Saints to be the first to connect on a ball for the lead and hold the Wolves scoreless for the remainder of the match to complete the shutout. 
 
On a ball from Payton Aselton off a corner kick into the middle of the box, Kiersten Madsen headed the ball two yards out to seal the victory for Saint Martin's (1-3) in their first win of the season. This goal marked Madsen's fourth straight goal to continue her hot streak in the Saint's fourth game of the season.
 
The first half of the game was defensive on both ends, with each team only being able to get four shots in. SMU recorded two shots on goal, while Western Oregon (1-2) marked only one shot on goal.
 
It wasn't until the 14 minutes into the second half that SMU got on the board to hold the momentum over WOU. In the 59th minute, Aselton fed a perfect ball through the middle of the box off a corner kick that Madsen headed into the net just two yards away. The Saints kept the Wolves out of the net for the remaining 31 minutes for the home victory and complete shutout.  
 
Ali Campigotto played in goal for the Saints for the full 90 minutes, facing eight shots with one save. Saint Martin's recorded a total of eight shots, five of which were on target. Madsen recorded four of those shots, Aselton with two, while Taylor Goodpastor and Justine Pauly each got in one shot on goal.
 
The Saints will head to Seattle Thursday, April 1 for a matchup against Seattle Pacific. Kick- off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with live stats and video available at smusaints.com.
