LACEY, Wash. - Despite taking the momentum in the 86th minute with an equalizer goal to bring the match into overtime, Pacific Lutheran escaped Saint Martin's in the 95th minute with a 3-2 overtime win Wednesday night at Saints Field.
In the first half, the Pacific Lutheran jumped on the board early in the 16th minute. Freshman
Caden Martin responded 10 minutes later with a goal of his own from the top of the box into the left back of the net to mark his first career goal as a Saint.
Eli Eldridge and
Isaac Hernandez each recorded an assist for a double assist play for their firsts of the season.
Down the stretch, after another PLU goal, freshman
David Settle provided another equalizer goal for the Saints off an assist from
Brian Licona late in the second half to force the game into overtime.
Five minutes into overtime, Pacific Lutheran capitalized on the golden goal and went home with a 3-2 victory.
The Saints outshot the Lutes 18-15; however, were outshot in shots on goal 11-to-4.
Hunter Askland played in goal for the Saints for the first 45 minutes, facing five shots, while
Bryce Porter played the remaining 50 minutes, making six saves on nine shots. Licona, Settle, and Martin provided the offense for the Saints, combining for 13 out of 18 of the shots for the Saints.
