Renaud Delivers Walk-Off Blast In Saints' Victory

LACEY, Wash. – Aaron Renaud collected five hits on the day against Lewis-Clark State, but none were bigger than the last.

With the ballgame tied 5-5 heading to the bottom of the ninth, Saint Martin's picked up two outs before Dakota Hill singled to bring Renaud up to the plate. On an inside fastball, Renaud squared up and blasted a ball deep over the left field wall, sending the Saints' bench into a frenzy, and mobbing the lefty at the plate.

LC State took the first end of the doubleheader to begin the day by a result of 10-3. All three of the Saints' run in the sixth, starting with a sac fly from Chayson Dulatre. Ryne Oshiro brought home another two on his double down the left field line.

The second billing began with LC State throwing up three runs over the first two innings to take a lead. Saint Martin's chipped away with a RBI single from Cody Isa, and an RBI groundout from Reid Little in the sixth.

The Warriors added two more runs in the seventh on a home run to the left field. In the eighth, the Saints loaded the bases for Braeden McNally. McNally forced in a run on a hit by pitch, leading to pinch-hitter Jake Leonard. Leonard came through the clutch game-tying two RBI double sending the game into the ninth.

After another lights out inning from eventual winning pitcher James Gunther in the top of the frame, the Saints came to bat. To start the inning, Ty Matsunami forced a walk on nine pitches, fouling off five balls. However, the Saints grounded into a double-play on the next batter.

But the momentum turned when Hill singled up the middle, bringing up the hottest hitter in the ballpark. Renaud, who had three hits already in the game, and one in the first contest, drove an inside fastball to left for his fifth home run of the year.

The loss marked only third of the year for an LC State squad with 31 victories.
