LACEY, Wash. – The Saints wasted no time resuming play from yesterday's 9-inning game, lighting up the scoreboard in their 9-to-4 win over Montana State Billings before dropping both ends of a doubleheader to close out the series.
Due to lack of light, the Saints and Yellowjackets' second from Thursday was postponed after the 5th inning with MSUB leading 3-2. A two RBI single from
Braeden McNally gave the Saints the lead in the 6th inning, and SMU never looked back.
Saint Martin's blew open the lead in the 7th inning on RBI hits from
Reid Little, McNally, and
Ty Matsunami.
Mark Steward added the final run in the 8th inning with his RBI double to left field, as the Saints coasted to a 9 to 4 win.
In the second game, the Saints and Yellowjackets went back and forth with explosive offensive innings, a couple 3-run innings to open for both sides. MSUB added a 6-spot in the 4th inning, and the Saints responded with four in the 5th inning to make the score 10-7. However,
It was the yellow jackets who ended the game on a 9 to 1 run to seal the victory.
After an all fence of shoot-out in the second game, a pitcher's duel irrupt it in the series finale between
Zach Alcos and Blake Tritch of MSUB. Both pitched to a tune of one run over seven innings, leading the game into extra innings. Alcos was replaced by
Cole Hatton in the 8th inning, and with the bases-loaded and two outs, an error allowed all three runs to score.
In the bottom half of the 8th, the Saints were unable to tie the game, falling 4-1.
Saint Martin's travels next weekend to Northwest Nazarene, starting the four-game series on Friday, April 30 at 2:00PM. Live stats and streaming will be available on smusaints.com.
