LACEY, Wash. – Returning home for the first time in exactly a month, the Saints were unable to grab a victory in the doubleheader against Humboldt State on Tuesday.
Humboldt State (7-1) took both ends of the doubleheader using pitching in the opening game before scoring 12 runs in the second billing. The Saints (10-12) were unable to get the offense going in both ends of the doubleheader, and dropped just their second and third games at home this season.
In the opener, Humboldt State finally managed to get to Saints' ace
Abby Runyon in the fourth inning with two runs, and then again in the fifth with a two RBI double.
Saint Martin's best chance to score didn't come until the seventh inning when SMU loaded the bases with nobody out. But the Jacks worked out of the jam with a fielder's choice, a sac fly, and a ground out.
Humboldt State quickly jumped on the Saints in the second game, scoring two in the first, and then three in both the second and third.
Kylee Vanderbout got the Saints on the board in the fifth with her RBI double to left center.
Vanessa Smoke, and
Julia Lucas both drove in runs later in the inning as the Saints managed to cut the score down to 9-4. However, the Jacks secured the win in the sixth with another four runs.
The Saints host Humboldt State one more time, tomorrow at 1:00 PM with live stats and streaming available on smusaints.com.
