Saints' Perfect Start Comes To A Close In Hawai'i

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Saints' perfect start to the 2021 campaign came to end in Hawai'i after Saint Martin's dropped two matches against East Bay, and Hawai'i Hilo.

In the opening match against the Pioneers (5-2), Saint Martin's (5-2) dropped the opening set 25-20. After failing behind in the second set, the Saints managed to win their lone set of the day 25-22 in the third.

However, despite the Saints finding life in the third, East Bay was able to regroup and ruin the comeback attempt, winning the match 25-19 in the fourth set.

Kylie Coon and Tia Allen tied for the most kills in the match with 12, followed by Emily Gooding at eight. Giselle Benetti accounted for 17 digs, with Allen going for 16, and Kylie Alos at 11.

In the second match of the day, it was a rematch from the Saints' tournament opening win yesterday against Hawai'i Hilo (2-1). But the rematch did not play out the same way as the first match.

Hilo managed take the first set 25-22, before winning the following sets 25-18, and 25-21. Saint Martin's as a team collected 39 kills on 111 attempts for a .216 hitting percentage.

Ilana Sagapolutele ended the match with a team-leading 13 kills, while Allen added 10 kills, and seven digs. Alos' 16 digs marked the most on the team.

Saint Martin's plays their final match of the Hawai'i Challenge against host school Chaminade tomorrow, Sunday, at 1:00 PM. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.
