NAMPA, Idaho – The Saint Martin's volleyball team (12-9, 2-9 GNAC) kept it close against Northwest Nazarene (14-5, 7-4 GNAC) on Saturday, but ended up unable to come up with a set, falling 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-14).
Like Thursday, the Saints again started strong and came to the precipice in set one. A late
Emmy Hansen kill knotted the score at 23, meaning just two points would win it for the Saints. Those final points would end up belonging to NNU and they won the set 25-23.
Second set was similar with the Saints going on a three-point run late, utilizing kills from
Gracie Brenner, Hansen, and a block from
Loredana Fouonji and Jennifer Lee to go up 22-21. Again, however, the Nighthawks finished with a flourish of four straight points to take another set by a slim margin at 25-22. The final set had NNU on the offensive, tallying their 25 to a score of 14. Hansen led the Saints with eight kills, while
Tia Allen was solid on the back line with 15 digs.
The Saints stay on the road next Thursday, October 22nd as they head to Monmouth, Oregon for a 7 PM start with Western Oregon University (7-12, 3-8 GNAC).
