MONMOUTH, Oreg.- Despite a marvelous game from sophomore middle blocker
Jennifer Soha in which she reached a tie for the most single game blocks in school history, the Saint Martin's volleyball team (12-10, 2-10 GNAC) stumbled and fell on Saturday night, in a 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 25-20, 25-18) decision against Western Oregon (8-12, 4-8 GNAC).
Â
After stumbling in the first two sets, the Saints came back with a strong third set that was sparked by a four-point run when
Emmy Hansen was serving. Soha started it off with a kill, while
Maddy Gooding added a kill herself and
Loredana Fouonji finished it off with a block. Late in the set, SMU built their lead to 23-20 for a Soha block to push them to the brink at 24. Hansen had the final kill, for the Saints to win the set 25-20. WOU would take the final set by seven points.
Â
Soha would finish with a total of 15 kills and ten blocks, a rare double-double for a middle, with those ten blocks equalizing her for the most in school history in a single game.
Abigail Halstead was all over the back line with 23 digs, while
Karla Soto added 43 assists.
Â
The Saints are back home on Thursday, October 27
th with a 7 PM start against Seattle Pacific (9-12, 7-6 GNAC) at Marcus Pavilion.
