LACEY, Wash. – The Saint Martin's men's soccer team (2-11-2, 2-6-1 GNAC) gave Northwest Nazarene (11-3-2, 7-2-1 GNAC) a handful Thursday afternoon, and after holding the lead for about 25 minutes of match time, the Saints lost control and ended up losing the contest 3-1.
The highlight of the contest undoubtedly came in the 28
th minute when
Angel Alvarado-Fajardo and
David Settle combined for a nifty setup of teammate
Ethan Jud who fired a shot near goal with a furry. The ball clocked the crossbar before going down into goal and ricocheting back up into the top netting for a successful strike to give the Saints a 1-0 lead that they would hold until early in the second half.
The Nighthawks, who were recently ranked the 11
th best team in the West Region, found their form in the second half scoring twice in the matter of just six minutes to grab their lead early into the frame. Their insurance came in the 76
th minute and a 3-1 scoreline was all she wrote.
Nick Mueller had four saves in goal for SMU.
The Saints will host senior day on Saturday, October 29
th in a matchup with Simon Fraser (9-5, 6-3 GNAC). Kickoff is set for 1 PM at Saints Field.
