LACEY, Wash. – The Saint Martin's volleyball team (12-11, 2-11 GNAC) came out of the gates firing on Thursday night, but ended up on the short end, falling 3-1 (14-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-19) at the hands of Seattle Pacific University (10-12, 8-6 GNAC).
The Saints blew into the comfortable lead in the blink of an eye in the first set, thanks in huge part to an impressive six-point run with
Mahina Pescaia serving. The run was started by a kill from
Tia Allen and included a beautiful ace from the sophomore from Hawaii as SMU went up 12-3. The Saints held a double-digit lead for most of the rest of the set and eventually pushed it to 24-14 where
Jennifer Soha slammed the door shut with a kill on set point to send the home Saints up 1-0.
The Falcons answered right back in the following two sets, in which they took both by a score of 25-16. In the fourth, a
Maddy Gooding kill put SMU up 14-13, but it was there where SPU flexed their muscles once again, as they went on a four-point run and never looked back. Seattle Pacific would go on to win the set 25-19.
Soha led the Saints with eight kills while
Emmy Hansen had seven. Setter
Karla Soto had herself 28 assists along with three aces, while
Abigail Halstead held down the back line with 16 digs.
The Saints will be back at Marcus Pavilion this Saturday, October 29
th with a battle against MSU-Billings (7-16, 0-14 GNAC) at 5 PM.
