BURNABY, B.C. – The Saint Martin's Women's soccer team (5-9-2, 3-8-2 GNAC) had both the weather and Simon Fraser University (5-6-6, 4-5-4 GNAC) to deal with on Thursday night, and in the end, they came up short by a score of 2-0.
On a night with multiple delays due to the dense fog that settled in at Terry Fox Field, the Saints felt the downpour in the first half. Goalkeeper
Soph Mendoza made five of their six saves in the frame, pushing their career total to over 100 in their impressive career. SFU found the back of the net first with a goal in the 23
rd minute.
In the second half, it was Saint Martin's that flipped the script, blasting four shots on target that forced saves out of the Red Leaf keeper. Maria Pagnotta led the charge with two of those shots, while
Shelby Clayton and
Payton Aselton each had a SOG as well. Against the run of play, insurance was grabbed in the 78
th minute by Simon Fraser, scoring a goal to ensure their victory.
The Saints stay on the road for their final game of the season, with a contest at Western Washington (11-2-4, 10-1-2 GNAC) on Saturday, October 29
th. That game will kickoff at 4 PM.
