LACEY, Wash. – The Saint Martin's women's basketball team (1-1) was tripped up for the first time on Sunday afternoon with a 57-45 loss against the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks (1-1).
It was defense that led the way for the Saints in the early going, allowing just six points on 20% shooting in the first quarter. From there, the SMU offense was led by
Rian Clear who exploded for 17 points. She also nearly grabbed a double-double with nine boards.
Lauryn Morris was right behind her in rebounding, with eight pull downs.
After going down 10 in the third, the script flipped when
Emily Nelson came onto the court and sparked an 11-0 run, including two buckets from herself under the basket. Unfortunately, the Saints couldn't hold on to the lead, as Cal Poly outplayed Saint Martin's in the fourth quarter, pulling off the 57-45 win.
The Saints will head to Chico, California on Friday, November 18
th, as they take on Sonoma State in a CCAA/GNAC Challenge hosted by Chico State. Tipoff is set for 5 PM on Friday.
