PORTLAND, Oreg. – The Saints Martin's women's soccer team had three Saints named to the All-GNAC Team on Tuesday, including freshman Maria Pagnotta being named to the Second Team, while
Salma Perez and
Soph Mendoza earned a spot as honorable mentions.
Pagnotta led the charge for the SMU offense in just her freshman year and she came out of the gates firing scoring a goal in her first ever collegiate game on August 26
th when she put in the first goal against Colorado Mesa. One week later, she tallied her second in a win over Cal State Monterey Bay. In conference play, it was really one week in early October that cemented her honors. In three straight games, from October 1
st through October 8
th, Pagnotta scored a goal each on a total of eight shots. In over 1,100 minutes played Pagnotta racked up five goals for ten points and had 25 total shots in her freshman season.
Salma Perez was a bruising defender and an anchor of the backline in her senior season. Perez started in, and played in, all but one game for the Saints this season, playing the full 90 in most. With her leading the defense, the Saints had three shutouts and gave up less than 1.4 goals per game. In her past two seasons with Saint Martin's, Perez has started in 34 games totaling over 2,600 minutes as a Saint.
Mendoza just finished their four-year career on top of many SMU record books, but that wasn't without a tremendous senior season. Splitting games with
Ali Campigotto in goal, Mendoza started nine games, picked up one shutout and had two wins. A constant highlight reel making save after save, Mendoza racked up a staggering 61 saves in their 810 minutes in net. They finish their career fifth in career saves and sixth in saves per game in team history.
